ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

 

    The Social Work department was started in the year 2005 and has an unprecedented 13 years of glorious and dedicated service in social work education and practice. We are marching on from strength to strength. The purpose of the course was to study and achieve scientific knowledge about the diverse problems and issues in the society. Prepares the students with the necessary skills for the empowerment of people with social courage, ability to apply skills for social research and develop an attitudinal courage to work with people and organizations. We have special commitment and concern for agencies and NGO’s. This is reflected in all our endeavors towards their welfare. The department continuous its journey toward reaching the unreached.

MSW degree Programme is two year programme in pattern of semesters. The department comes under un-aided session in which a candidate who has qualified in Bachelor’s degree with 55% in any discipline is eligible foe seeking admission. This course has allied subjects namely 1) social problems and fields of social work, 2) social action ,social policy and social legislation 3) project formulation 4) Administration of service organization.

Aim of this course is to Apply the knowledge of social work in the domain of community development, human resource management, medical and psychiatric rehabilitation. To enhance the individuals to help themselves with the scientific knowledge about the dynamics of problem and social issues through utilizing the available resources for the empowerment of vulnerable groups. Encouraging students to relate theory with field work practice and to understand human behaviour and critically analyse the social issues by the means of adoption and values of social work in different dimensions

FACULTY PROFILE

Ms. Elavarasi .P currently serve as Assistant Professor and Head i/c at the Department of Social Work, Auxilium College (Autonomous) Vellore. She has 7 years of teaching experience. She has completed her Graduation in BCA,,MSW (Community Development) in Auxilium College and M.Phil in Social Work in Sacred Heart College Thirupathur. The Area of her Interest lays on Entrepreneurship Development, Counselling, Corporate Social Responsibility and so on and she always ready to take responsibility and she is a Member and Staff in-charge for Extension Activity and AICUF.

 
 

Christina Nithya Priya. R currently serve as Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work, Auxilium College, Vellore. She has 2 years and 4 months of Teaching Experience. She completed her B.A.,(English) at Auxilium College and acquired MSW (HR) from Auxilium College. She equips Social Worker with HR skills to effectively manage personnel, resolve conflict and align organisational policies with ethical standards.

 
 

Ms. Manjula. S currently working as Assistant Professor at the Department of Social work in Auxilium College (AUTONOMOUS), Vellore. She has 3 years of teaching experience. She completed her undergraduate (B.A. English) in E.R.K Arts and Science College, Erumiyampatti (Harur) affiliated to periyar university and postgraduate (MSW) (Specialization Medical and Psychiatry) in Don Bosco College, Dharmapuri, affiliated to periyar university. She also did a certification in psychotherapy. She previously worked as a social work counsellor in a De-addiction cum Psychiatric Rehabilitation centre in Puzhal, Chennai. She worked as Assistant Professor in Don Bosco College, Dharmapuri in the academic year 2019-2020. Her area of interests includes mental health, coping mechanisms, and psychiatry. She plays as a volunteer in the areas of organic farming and sustainable living. She participated in a 6 days cycle rally in 2019 which covered 5 districts promoting organic farming and making awareness about the importance of saving palm trees helps to increase ground water and benefitting the farmers in various aspects.

 
 

Ms Abinaya P A. currently serves as Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work , Auxilium College, Vellore. She completed her B.A (English) at Women’s Christian College and acquired M.A Social Work (specialized in Community Development) from Loyola College, Chennai. She has qualified UGC NET December 2020 and June 2021 merged session in the subject Social Work. Her focus is to amplify the voices of vulnerable through student community.
