ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

 

    The Department of History was established in the year 1975. To facilitate better job prospects for the students, the department conducts the utility and value based UGC career oriented program on “Human Rights and values in Education” and “Rural Handicraft” to the under-graduate students from various disciplines of the College. The Department has been striving to broaden its horizon of knowledge by organizing seminars like Women’s Rights, Human Rights, Ethical Voting and Tourism and Archaeology. The Department of History with a glorious background now looks forward to implement the subjects that cater to the needs of the students in the current scenario which helps them to appear for various competitive examinations and for their enhancement of personality skills. The faculty members of the department, each specialized in different facets of History is striving in their unique way to motivate and inspire the students to equip themselves to achieve higher goals and to fulfill their ambition. Certificate courses are offered by our department like Tourism and Travel agency also on Human rights and values in Education. The relevance of the curriculum helps to enter into civil service examination, offers an opportunity to become a social science Teacher in high school and higher secondary level. The Students who have completed their UG are pursuing their higher Education in various reputed Institution like Madras University and Madras Christian College, Chennai. The syllabus is revamped regularly to provide skill training and job opportunity to the students. The Students of History have brought many laurels to the Department in the Sports field and other extracurricular Activities.

Objectives of the Department:

To offer to the students the knowledge about Indian History and World History and help them to become responsible and honest citizens to stand for right values and become an agents of social change.

FACULTY PROFILE

Dr. (Sr.) Sumathi M., serves as the Head of the Department of History from the year 2013 onwards. She has completed her M.A., M.Phil from Madras University and qualified SET in the year 2016 from Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal. She has obtained her Doctorate in History in the year 2022 from Thiruvalluvar University. She has 10 years of experience in the teaching field. Her specialization is Indian History and World History. She has published her papers in the National, International Journals, Tamil Nadu and Indian History Congress. She has availed ICSSR Minor Projects and organized Seminar.

 
 

Mrs.Dhanapackiam , currently serves as an Assistant Professor from the Department of History, Auxilium College,(Autonomous), Vellore-6. She has 12 years of teaching experience. She completed her UG and PG (History) Degree at Madurai Kamararaj University and acquired M.Phil (History) Degree from Alagappa University. She qualified her SET in the year 2012 conducted .She submitted her Ph.D thesis in the year 2023 to,Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore. Her area of specialization is Indian Archaeology, History of Tamil Nadu and Indian Constitution.She has published papers in National journals and conferences

 
 

Miss. S.M. Nageswari is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of History, Auxilium College, Vellore. She has two years of teaching experience in various reputed institutions including Madurai, Bangalore, Theni, Sivakasi and Chennai. She has completed her Master of Arts in History at Lady Doak College, Madurai. She has completed her Masters in Philosophy in History at Sri Meenakshi Government Arts and Science College, Madurai. She is pursuing her Ph.D in History at Madurai Kamaraj University. The specialization of her Ph.D Research is Jainism and Jain monuments. She has specialization in the areas of Tourism, Modern Indian History and Human Rights

 
 

Dr. Bertila. R. currently serves as an  Assistant Professor at the Department of History, Auxilium College, Katpadi, Vellore from 2021. She has completed her UG and PG in Sri Meenakshi Government College, Madurai, M.Phil. in Madurai Kamaraj university, Madurai and obtained her Ph.D. from Manonmaniam Sundaranar university, Tirunelveli.
