ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

 

    UG Physics Programme course was established in the year 1999 and PG Physics Programme course was introduced in 2014. The Objective of the department is to equip the students with knowledge and skills and to inculcate in them research interest. There are three well equipped laboratories in the department and a departmental library comprising of books of latest editions and journals. There are eleven faculty members in the department working for the welfare of students. Students produce consistently good results. Apart from academics, students participate enthusiastically in co curricular and extracurricular activities organized in the college. As an extension activity the students coach up the weak students of the neighboring school on week days. Once in three years National level seminar is organized by the department and the students are exposed to lectures by experts. Once in a month the staff and the students are involved and engaged with a departmental association activity. The department has progressed and definitely it will be extending its frontiers towards research.

FACULTY PROFILE

Dr. P.Nisha Santhakumari joined Auxilium College as Lecturer in 1985 and has a teaching experience that spans over 38 years. Currently she serves as Associate Professor and Head of the department of Physics. She did her UG and PG courses in Physics at Sarahtucker College, Palayamkottai affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, M.Phil at C.Abdul Hakeem college affiliated to University of Madras and received her Ph.D degree from VIT University, Vellore in the year 2008 under the guidance of Dr.S.Kalainathan. . Her area of research is Gel growth in the field of Crystal growth. She has contributed in establishing UG Physics in 1999, PG Physics in 2014 and Research in 2020. She has guided M.Sc. students with their projects. She has published papers in international journals. She organises National conferences in the department regularly once in three years with publications of proceedings. She has served as a member of many professional bodies. As Head of the department of Physics she has contributed and done her duty to the best of her ability since the first visit of NAAC. She is passionate about her work. She is serving the institution as a member of several committees.

 
 

Sr.Venci X. currently serves as Assistant Professor of Physics and the Head in charge of UG Physics in Auxilium College, Vellore. She has 16 years of teaching experience with UG and 6 years in PG. She completed her B.Sc. Physics in Stella Maris College, Chennai and acquired her post graduation-M.Sc. Physics in Loyola College, Chennai affiliated to Madras University She has done her M.Phil. Physics at Bharathidasan University at Tiruchirapalli. She pursued her Ph.D in Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University and submitted the thesis for the same. Her research interests include thin films and nano-materials. She has published papers in the reputed international journals.

 
 

Mrs. R. Mary Jamila is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Auxilium College (Autonomous) in Vellore. She has seven years’ experience in educating MSc students and possesses a strong academic background. She has completed her BSc in Physics from Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Trichy, MSc in Physics from Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, and M.Phil degree from the University of Madras, Chennai. She received the University Research Fellow (URF) award from the University of Madras for the period 2009-2011. She contributed as a Project Fellow at the National Center forNanoscience and Nanotechnology (NCNST) at the University of Madras, Chennai working on a project funded by MHRD special grants during the years 2011-2014. Presently, she is pursuing her doctoral studies at Thiruvalluvar University in Vellore. Her field of research interests in the area of material science, nanoscience and nanotechnology, with particular focus on the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials and nanomaterials-based sensors. She has contributed to international journals and presented her work at conferences.

Dr.N.R.DEVI joined the Department of Physics as an Assistant Professor on June 2018. She has eight years of teaching experience in both engineering (one year) and Science (six years) College. She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Fatima College, Madurai affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and acquired M.Phil from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. Served as a Research Associate under the project funded by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), New Delhi during the year 2008 - 2010. Her doctoral works “Studies on Unique properties of Novel Carbon and Other Nanostructures” was done in Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai and in 2016, she received her Ph.D degree from Anna University, Chennai. Based on her doctoral research, she published ten research papers in various National and International journals. She is guiding M.Sc. students to carry out their project work. Filed the patent as titled “Intelligence Superconductor to minimize the energy band gap”. Her areas of research are: Crystal growth, Density functional Theory (DFT) studies in Nanomaterials such as coiled carbon nanotubes, single wall and multi wall carbon nanotubes, graphene, ZnO, BN, AlN nanotubes for Hydrogen adsorption and Gas sensors applications. She is also having interest in synthesis of Nanofluids etc.

 
 

Dr.Sarjila R. currently serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics of Auxilium College, Vellore. She has 16 years of teaching experience. She obtained her Ph.D. in the year 2018 from Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. She completed her B.Sc., M.Sc., B.Ed., and M. Phil., in Physics from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University during 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004 respectively. Her M.E. in Applied Electronics was earned from VMKV Engineering College, Salem during 2009. She is a dedicated and accomplished individual with a rich educational background, combining engineering and physics expertise, making them a valuable asset to the academic and research community. Her research interest includes solar photovoltaics and IoT. She has published more than 16 papers in International Journals and Conferences.

Dr.A.Priyadharshini has been working as a Assistant Professor in Physics at Auxilium College since 2019. She has earned her Ph.D in Physics from VIT University for her work in the area of ‘Crystal Growth’. Her research interest lie in : Organic, Semi-Organic and Nonlinear Optical Materials. She has several research papers presented and published in national and international journals to her acclaim. Additionally, She received ''Research award for the year 2017'' awarded by the Vellore Institute of technology (VIT), Vellore, October 2018. She worked as a teaching research assistant (TRA) in VIT. Moreover, she taught physics lab experiments to the B.Tech students for over 3 years. Her passion for academics drove her to choose a teaching career. Her academic interests are Electronics, Mechanics and Condensed Matter Physics.

 
 

Dr. Reena Devi S. right now works as Assistant Professor at the PG and Research Department of Physics, Auxilium College (Autonomous), Vellore. She has 13 years of educating experience. She completed her Doctoral degree at Presidency College, Chennai affiliated to University of Madrasin the year 2020 and acquired M.Phil from Annamalai University, Chidambaram during 2008. She got her M.Sc., degree in the year 2005 from Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University and B.Sc., Ethiraj College for women, Chennai affiliated to University of Madras. She has done her B.Ed.,in C.S. College, Tirupattur, Tamilnadu Education University. Her area of research in the field of Crystal growth. She has guided M.Sc. students with their projects. She has published more than 14 papers in National and International Journals.

Dr. N.V.Lakshmi currently serves as Assistant Professor in Department of Physics, Auxilium College (Autonomous) Vellore. She obtained her Ph.D. in the year 2018 from VIT University, Vellore. She has 4 years of teaching experience and 6 years of research experience. Her areas of research interest includes Polymer Nanocomposites ,Graphene based Hybrid Nanomaterials, Magnetic Nanomaterials and Carbon Nanotubes based Nanomaterials for EMI shielding & Sensor applications.

 
 

Dr.Deepapriya.S currently serves as Assistant Professor in Department of Physics, Auxilium College (Autonomous) Vellore. She has 2 years of teaching experience.She completed her B.Sc. Physics at Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai and acquired M.Sc., Physics from Women’s Christian College, Chennai. She completed her doctorate in Physics (Area of specialization: Gas Sensor, Bio Sensor) in 2021 from Loyola College, Chennai. Her research interest includes Water Splitting, Photo catalysis, Super capacitors for nanomaterials. Presently she is actively involved in teaching, non-academic and research activities. She is guiding M.Sc. students. She has filed patents for her research work. She has large number of publications in high impact factor international journals.

 

Dr.Saranya P.E. currently serves as Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics, Auxilium College, Vellore. She has 3 years of teaching experience. She completed her B.Sc. Physics at Auxilium College and acquired M.Sc. Physics from Sacred Heart College. She completed her M.Phil Physics at Anna University, Chennai. She obtained her Ph.D in the year 2019 from Anna University, Chennai. Her research interest includes energy storage nanomaterials,and supercapacitors, Fuel cells. She has published papers in international journals and conferences.
