The Motto of VIDES is to Light Life
It is abbreviated as,
V – Voluntary
I – International
D – Dedicated
E – Education
S – Socially at risk
In 1987,the idea of initiating VIDES association started to generate in the mind of mother Castagno Marinella the former superior general of the salesian sister society.At the dusk of 1987, the association of VIDES began to take its shape in the Italian Salesian Sister?s center as voluntary International dedicated to the Education of socially at risk (Youth and Women) so from its origin it is clear that VIDES is a Forum of creating oppurtunities for the youth to render service to the needy atleast once in their life time.It started in our college in 2003, to instill in young people to reachout to others who are inneed.
At present there are 90 residential students as members in VIDES from all the three years of Shift-I and Shift-II.
The Activities of VIDES:
- Village Visiting
- Teaching the uneducated children
- Conducting tuition for students who are in Government School.
- Celebrating important festivals and sharing with the needy.
- Visiting old aged home, orphanage and home for mentally retarded children.
The Volunteers Dedicated to the Development of the Socially at Risk – VIDES
The VIDES unit offered weekly coaching classes and conducted awareness programmes in the adopted village, Kulakarai. Under the co-ordination of Sr. Xavier Venci, Asst. Proessor. of Physics, visits to Old Age Home and Orphanage at Poigai and Home for the Mentally Challenged Children were organized. Thirty five members participated in the Zonal meet conducted at Mary Immaculate Convent, Tirupattur. Service was rendered in the adopted villages, Unnamalaisamuthiram and Thirumani regularly and coaching classes were conducted. The VIDES adopted villages namely Unnamalai Samuthiram and Thirumani to render service for the government school children. The VIDES members visited Ammavarpalli village and Irullar colony and the members distributed clothes and cakes.
